District 15 - Adopt a Library or School Project
Help us carry the written word of hope to families and friends of alcoholics. We encourage each group in District 15 to place at least one conference approved Al-Anon book in a library in your community during this year. Your district has started by placing books in several school libraries. We all know that within each district some groups are "richer" and some are "poorer". This is an opportunity to be creative and innovative. How?
Examine your group's literature box. Is there a book that can be distributed now?
Consider a special "Library jar" to collect donations of change. When there is enough change to purchase a book, pick a library and ask for a volunteer to drop the book off.
Donate some appropriate pamphlets to the library of your choice.
Alameda libraries and schools
Ask if you can post a card on a bulletin board that would give the phone number for how to find local meetings (510 276-2270), and/or the local web site address (www.ncwsa.org/d15).
Ask if members of your group can leave bookmarks in the Al Anon books already shelved in their library, notifying readers of other books available or local meeting contacts.
What book should we donate? Our suggestions
In order to avoid duplication, we ask that you call your Literature Distribution Center at (510) 276-2270 before placing a book. We will maintain a list of libraries that have received books and will pass that information along to you. And please, do not hesitate to contact your LDC if you have any questions.
